Artist Bio
Andy Warhol was an American painter, photographer, and filmmaker. He is regarded as the most important representative and co-founder of Pop Art. Warhol had an unparalleled ability to aesthetically transform idols and everyday banalities into his works. His influence on art and pop culture remains profound to this day.
Born: August 6, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
1945-1949: Studied design at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
1949: Moved to New York and began working as a commercial illustrator
1952: First solo show at the Hugo Gallery, New York
1956: First group exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York
1962: Founded the studio The Factory in New York
1968: Survived an assassination attempt by Valerie Solanas
1969: Founded Interview Magazine in New York
1974: Opened the office of Andy Warhol Enterprises
1978: Studied at the School of Visual Arts, New York
1982: Created Andy Warhol’s TV Show
1987: Died on February 22 in Manhattan, New York
1989: MoMA presented a retrospective of his works
